Aidan Foster-Carter

ICAS Fellow

Dear Friend:

We are pleased to share with you that Aidan Foster-Carter has been named ICAS Fellow, effective immediately.

Aidan Foster-Carter is honorary senior research fellow in sociology and modern Korea at Leeds University, UK. Aidan has followed Korean affairs for over 30 years, starting (embarrassingly) as a juvenile fan of Kim Il-sung. Educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford, he taught sociology at the Universities of Hull, Dar es Salaam, and Leeds from 1971 to 1993. An early general interest in developing countries focussed into an obsession with Korea in particular. Since 1993 Aidan has been a full-time Korea analyst and consultant: writing, lecturing and broadcasting for business, academic and policy audiences both in the UK and worldwide. His books include Korea's Coming Reunification: Another East Asian Superpower? (1992), and North Korea after Kim Il-sung: Controlled Collapse? (1994). From 1993 to 1997 he wrote a monthly North Korea Report for business, published in Seoul. He has made over 20 visits to the peninsula, including two to North Korea. Aidan's ambition is to travel by train from Pusan to Paris.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Sang Joo Kim / signed
