We are pleased to share with you that Amit Sharma will address "Keeping World's Financial System Safe, Sound and Secure: The Case of Noerth Korea" at the ICAS Fall Symposium 2006 on October 11, 2006 at the United States House Rayburn Office Building Room 2200, Capitol Hill, Washington DC.


Amit Sharma is a Senior Advisor in the Office of Terrorist Financing and Financial Crime (TFFC) in the U.S. Department of the Treasury. In this role, Amit is responsible for developing strategies and establishing policies to combat a wide range of illicit finance activities including terrorist financing, WMD proliferation financing and narcotics both domestically and internationally. He focuses his international work throughout Asia, and specifically with issues surrounding North Korean illicit activities, including WMD proliferation, regional terrorist financing and other criminal activities. Amit's portfolio also includes looking at how the informal and formal financial sectors are not only vulnerable to illicit financial activities but also can be utilized to actively combat such activity. In this area, he also investigates issues relating to terrorist financing through charities and non-profit organizations, alternative remittances or informal value transfer systems, and the support networks that facilitate WMD proliferation.
