We are pleased to share with you that Chong Wook Chung will address the ICAS Spring Symposium on May 18, 2011 in Washington DC.

Professor Chong Wook Chung, having studied at Seoul National University (BA, international relations, 1965) and Yale University (Ph.D., political science, 1975), has an extensive experience in both university teaching and government service. Chong Wook taught full time at Yale University (1975-76), American University (1976-77) in Washington, D.C. and Seoul National University (1977-93). In 1993, he joined the government first as the Senior Presidential Secretary for National Security and Foreign Affairs (national security advisor) to President Kim Young Sam and then as Korean Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China. On returning home from Beijing in 1998, Chong Wook taught at Ajou University as a distinguished professor up until his retirement in 2006. He also taught at the S. Rajanatnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore as a visiting professor. Currently, Chong Wook is a distinguished professor at Dong-A University in Korea. During the spring semester in 2011, he is teaching an undergraduate seminar course in the Department of Government at Harvard University as the Inaugural Kim Koo Visiting Professor. His book-length English publications include Maoism & Development published by Seoul National University Press in 1980, and Korea’s Options in Changing World, co-editor, published by University of California (Berkeley) Press in 1992. While teaching at Seoul National University Chong Wook directed its Center for International Studies. Also, he served as the President of the Korean Association for the Study of Socialist Systems. Chong Wook received the Yale Alumni Award in 2007.
