We are pleased to share with you that Peter T R Brookes will be joining the Bush Administration as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Affairs, effective Tuesday July 17, 2001.

Peter T.R. Brookes assumed duties as deputy assistant secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Affairs on July 16. Under the direction of the assistant secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs, he is responsible for policy development, planning, guidance and oversight for the Asia-Pacific region.

Brookes most recently served as the principal advisor for East Asian affairs with the Republican staff of the House Committee on International Relations. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and Johns Hopkins University, Brookes has served in a variety of public and private organizations, including Science Applications International Corp., the Central Intelligence Agency, the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, the State Department and E-Systems. Brookes served on active duty in the U.S. Navy from 1982 to 1989 and has more than 1,300 flight hours in the EP-3 reconnaissance aircraft.
