Dear Friend:

We are pleased to share with you that The Hon Jalbuu Choinhor, Ambassador of Mongolia to the United States, will speak at the ICAS Winter Symposium on February 11, 2000.

Ambassador Choinhor, for the five years preceding his arrival in Washington D.C. as Ambassador, served as Deputy Foreign Minister in Mongolia. And, he is at present concurrently Mongolia's non-resident Ambassador to Canada.

Choinhor's career with the Mongolian Ministry of Foreign Affairs began in 1970 when he joined the department of international organisations. He stayed in that post for two years, then spent the next three years as part of the Mongolian Permanent Mission to the United Nations office in Geneva. Between 1975 and 1985, he returned to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to serve in the ministry's press and information department and the policy planning department. He was director of the Asian Department in the ministry between 1987 and 1990, after which he took the position of deputy minister for foreign affairs.

Ambassador Choinhor graduated from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (1970) and holds a PhD in history from the Moscow Diplomatic Academy. In addition to his native Mongolian, Choinhor speaks fluent English and Russian. He and his wife have one daughter, Tserendulam. His hobbies include translation of Shakespeare. Thank you.

Sincerely,
