We are pleased to share with you that John A Gans Jr has been named ICAS Fellow, effective immediately.

John is the Director of Communications and Research of the Perry World House, the University of Pennsylvania's Global Policy Institute. Prior to coming the Director of Communications and Research in November 2018, he was Global Order Program Manager, from November 2017 to November 2018, of the Perry World House. Prior to this, John was the chief speechwriter to Secretary of Defense Ash Carter. Dr Gans served as the principal advisor to the Secretary Carter on planning, positioning, and preparation of remarks; managed a team of writers; and drafted dozens of speeches delivered around the world. In addition to leading the writing team at the Defense Department, John served as senior speechwriter for Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and Secretary of the Treasury Jack Lew.

John's new book, White House Warriors: How the National Security Council Transformed the American Way of War was released earlier this month by W W Norton’s Liv.

He earned his Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University, as well as he earned his Master of Arts and PhD from Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies, where he also taught for several years.
