We are pleased to share with you that Soo Kim has been named ICAS Associate, effective immediately.

Soo Kim is a policy analyst at the RAND Corporation and adjunct instructor at American University. At RAND, her research covers a broad range of defense and foreign policy issues for the Department of Defense, including North Korea’s nuclear strategy and conventional military threat, Russia’s national security strategy, US-China competition, and security cooperation. Soo began her career as a North Korea analyst in the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), where she specialized in decision-making and regime propaganda. She also served as a management consultant for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Soo is a commentary contributor at Nikkei Asian Review and The Lowy Institute's Interpreter. As a Koreas specialist, she is frequently cited in international media outlets, including Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, Financial Times, CNN, BBC, Voice of America, Dong-A Ilbo, Chosun Ilbo, New York Times, NBC, CNA, FOX News, and KBS Radio. Soo is a 2020 Project on Nuclear Issues (PONI) Mid-Career Cadre at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

She is a doctoral candidate at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and holds an MA in International Relations from SAIS and BA in French from Yale University. In her spare time, she enjoys painting and art.
