Jian Chen
Biographic Sketch

Jian Chen, ICAS Fellow, is Professor of History at Southern Illinois University. He has previously taught at East China Normal University, Tibetan Nationality College, and the State University of New York at Geneseo. Jian also was a Norwegian Nobel Institute fellow in 1993 and a United States Institute of Peace senior fellow in 1996-1997. Among his publications are China's Road to the Korean War:The Making of the Sino-American Confrontation (1994), Chinese Communist Foreign Policy and the Cold War in Asia: New Documentary Evidence, 1944-1950 (coeditor, 1996), The China Challenge in the 21st Century: Implications for U.S. Foreign Policy (1998), and many articles on modern Chinese history and Chinese foreign policy and security strategy. He has recently completed a book manuscript entitled Mao's China in the Cold War: New Inquiries and Re-interpretations which is to be published by the University of North Carolina Press.
