Gari Ledyard
Biographic Sketch

Gari Ledyard is King Sejong Professor of Korean Studies at Columbia University in the City of New York, where he has served as the director of the Korean Studies program in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures since 1964. He has taught and written on many aspects of Korean Studies, but is primarily a historian specializing in Korea's pre-modern periods. He has also taught and written on Korea's modern history, culture, and current affairs. He is the author of The Korean Language Reform of 1446, The Dutch Come to Korea, the book-length monograph "Cartography in Korea", published in the multi-volume work History of Cartography, edited by David Woodward, and many articles in journals and conference volumes.
